Pool regrouted in epoxy
Complete replacement of the grout in a pale mosaic pool, with the old grout raked out and epoxy applied.
The mosaic was in good condition but the cement grout was finished: darkened, powdery to the touch and already missing in several runs. When grout reaches that point, the next step is water starting to pass behind the mosaic and lifting the pieces.
After draining, the longest stage was removing the old grout. It has to come out of every channel to a uniform depth, because epoxy needs thickness to work and will not bond over loose cement residue. It is slow work, channel by channel, across the whole pool.
Then came washing and complete drying of the substrate, and the epoxy itself. This product has a short open time: it is applied panel by panel and each panel has to be cleaned within the product's window, or the excess hardens on the mosaic and leaves a permanent haze. The pool was only refilled once the manufacturer's cure had been observed.
