Bathroom clad in green marble
A complete bathroom refurbishment, from brickwork to stone: a walk-in shower, a floating counter and green marble from floor to ceiling.
The original bathroom had the typical nineties layout: a shower tray boxed into a corner, tiling to half height and paint above. The brief was to turn it into an open space, with no screens and no steps.
We began by stripping back to the brickwork and redoing all the water and waste pipework, with the floor falls corrected to a linear drain. The tanking took the longest and is the part you see least — in a bathroom with no shower screen, every drop of water that falls depends on it.
The finish is heavily veined green marble, applied in large-format slabs to the floor and up the walls to the ceiling. The difficulty here is the continuity of the veining: the slabs have to be selected and cut in sequence so the pattern runs from one to the next. The counter and the bench were made in a pale solid surface, in deliberate contrast to the dark stone.
