Many terraces are held by dry stone walls decades old. With no drainage behind them, rainwater pushes and the wall bellies out until it comes down. Rebuilding is a mason's job, not ordinary blockwork.

It can, but rarely with the patch people expect. The bulge nearly always comes from a lack of drainage: water builds up behind the wall and pushes. Filling the crack with cement delays the collapse; the solution is to rebuild that section with a drain, gravel and a membrane behind it.
