Ornamental pond with a stone cascade
A garden pond with a stone cascade wall, aquatic planting and an edge in stone and pebble.
The garden was a flat expanse covered in white gravel, with nothing to hold the eye. The idea was to create a water feature that would work as the centre of the space and bring sound and life to a garden that was largely mineral.
The build included excavation, waterproofing the basin, installing the water circulation and building the cascade wall in irregular stone, which is at once the vertical element of the garden and the point the water falls from.
The edge was worked in larger stone and rolled pebble, making the transition between the water and the existing gravel. The planting — papyrus and other species that tolerate standing water — completes the composition and helps keep the pond in biological balance.
