Garden bar with a thatched roof

The brief was to make use of a corner of the garden next to the decking to create a bar area usable throughout the warm season, with room for storage and a fridge.

The structure was built over the existing decking, with a run of counter in a pale worktop and the front clad in natural cane, a material that stands up well outdoors in the Algarve climate and gives the informal register that was wanted.

The thatched roof, carried on the existing beam structure, does the essential job: shade over the counter without closing the space in. The lighting is a run of suspended bulbs, which gives enough light for the evening without needing any substantial electrical installation.
