Restoring timber garden furniture
An outdoor timber table brought back by sanding and oiling, rather than replaced.
Solid timber outdoor furniture is expensive to replace and almost always recoverable. What the sun and the rain do is attack the surface — the timber greys, roughens and the grain opens — but the piece stays structurally sound underneath.
Recovery means progressive sanding down to clean timber, followed by treatment with an oil made for exterior use, which penetrates and protects without forming a film that later cracks and peels.
It is work we do regularly for property management clients: at the end of winter, garden furniture that has stood out for months is made presentable again before the owners arrive.
