Boliqueime is barrocal country: houses scattered across hillsides, smallholdings with almond and carob trees, and a lot of old building stock that has never been properly touched.
Gentle hills between the mountains and the coast, with scattered settlement and dirt tracks serving many of the properties. Traditional country houses and restored smallholdings, barrel-tile roofs on timber structures, stone walls holding up terraces, and farm outbuildings converted into living space.
In Boliqueime we are called out mainly for roofs and stonework — cleaning and repairing coverings before the first rains, and building or rebuilding walls.
This is where we find the most roofs covered in moss and lichen. Barrel tiles laid without an underlay let water through as soon as one piece cracks or slips, and the problem only shows up when the stain reaches the ceiling.
Many terraces are held by dry stone walls decades old. With no drainage behind them, rainwater pushes and the wall bellies out until it comes down. Rebuilding is a mason's job, not ordinary blockwork.
There are properties a materials lorry cannot reach. We allow for that when quoting, with a transfer into a smaller vehicle.
We look at the condition of the substrate. A wall with rising damp is not solved by painting, and it is better to know that beforehand.
We help with the colour and explain the difference between grades. We put a sample on the wall when there is doubt.
Protection, repairs and primer. It is the longest stage and the one that makes the difference.

If they are shrinkage cracks and they are opened, taped and filled with a flexible filler, they will not. If they are structural cracks, they will reopen — and in that case we tell you the problem is not one of painting.
On traditional walls we use mineral or lime-based paints, which let the wall breathe. Sealing an old wall with plastic paint traps the moisture and blows the render off before long.
It includes everything: labour, materials, protection and cleaning afterwards. There are no extras appearing halfway through.
